OUR PROJECTS
T-28 WARBIRD PROJECT
BLASTING
All the paint must be removed when refinishing a plane. Numerous ways can employed such as done here using plastic media blasting.
PREP
Another way of stripping off paint can be done with paint stripper. Pressure washing to remove all residue and other contaminants.
PRIMING
Once all paint has been removed and the aluminum is chemically prepped, then the metal is primed with an epoxy primer.
PAINTING
Once all the prep work, bodywork, and priming is completed, then the painting process begins starting with applying the color called basecoat.
CANOPY
You have probaby noticed we don't attempt to paint everything at once. Here is the cockpit canopy that was painted separately.
STRIPES
Although there is no set order when to paint stripes, we chose to do it after the basecoat was applied but before the clearcoat keeping the edges smooth.
LETTERING
After all the basecoat is applied, the stripes are done, then comes the placement and painting of all the lettering and markings of the plane.
CLEARCOAT
Now all the paint is done, stripes are on, as well as the markings and lettering, then we're ready to prep and spray the final clearcoat.
FINISHED
After all the basecoat is applied, the stripes are done, then comes the placement and painting of all the lettering and markings of the plane.
